Job strain

At the request of the Minister of Social Affairs and Employment, the Health Council of the Netherlands examines whether a health-based or safety-based limit can be indicated for the occupational risks referred to in the Working Conditions Act.

In its advisory letter of 23 March 2011, the Health Council examined the occupational risk of pressure of work. In the advisory report, the Occupational Risks Surveillance Committee concluded that there is no agreement in scientific reference literature about how pressure of work can best be defined. Consequently it is currently not possible to provide a substantiated assessment of the pressure of work a person is able to bear without developing symptoms.
