Population Screening Act: calcium score and the risk of cardiovascular disease
Within the context of the Population Screening Act (WBO) the Committee on Population Screening of the Health Council gave a positive recommendation to the Minister of Health on May 30, 2013 for the application for authorisation by the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam for a trial, called ROBINSCA. This trial in different methods of risk measurement for cardiovascular disease (CVD) is to be regarded as population screening, because people who have no signs or symptoms are invited to a risk measurement and, if the risk would be increased be referred to their GP for treatment. This study requires authorisation because ionizing radiation is required for one of the methods of risk measurement.
