Population Screening Act: first trimester scan for prenatal screening
UMC Groningen wants to invite 4,000 pregnant women to study the benefit of a first-trimest ultrasound in prenatal screening. Compared with the usual second-trimester ultrasound a first-trimester ultrasound provides weeks extra time for decisions about the pregnancy when fetal abnormalities are present. According to the Population Screening Act this study requires a permit. The Health Council advises the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport to grant this license.
