Physical activity guidelines 2017
Adults should be physically active at moderate intensity for at least two and a half hours every week and children at least one hour every day, according to the new guidelines. Muscle- and bone-strengthening activities are also recommended for both groups. Collectively, this lowers the risk of chronic diseases, such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, depressive symptoms and, in older adults, fractures. The Health Council advises the minister of Public Health, Welfare and Sports to stimulate people to engage in more physical activity on a permanent basis.
