Vaccination against HPV
Not only girls, but also boys should be vaccinated against HPV. An infection with HPV can lead to several forms of cancer in women and men. In the Netherlands, 200 women die of cervical cancer alone. Vaccination against HPV is effective, offers herd protection and is safe. Vaccination in the National Immunisation Programme is most effective when children are nine years old. Health gains can also be achieved by offering vaccination to people up to and including 26 years old who up till now have not been vaccinated.
