Self-sampling kit and smear test are equalivent
The Health Council recommends that all women who are invited to undergo population screening for cervical cancer should be free to choose between a smear test performed by their general practitioner or a self-sampling kit, that should be automatically included in the invitation. If the obstacles to participation in the population screening programme were to be mitigated in this way, more cases of cervical cancer should be detected at an early stage. This view was expressed by the Council in an advisory report on the options for improving population screening for cervical cancer.
