Results of initial evaluation into newborn blood spot screening positive
For many conditions, the newborn blood spot screening (NBS) programme leads to substantial health benefits without disproportionate harms. This was revealed in an initial evaluation by the Health Council of 11 of the 25 conditions in the Dutch NBS list. The Council recommends long-term evaluation of the benefits and harms of NBS, and has specified guidance. Periodic, long-term evaluation will require substantial research efforts, including systematic data collection for each condition included in the NBS list.
