Take sustainability into account in healthcare decision-making

In order to reduce the environmental impact of medical devices used in healthcare, sustainability must be taken into account in healthcare decision-making. Sustainability must become a standard of ‘good care’, alongside safety, efficiency, effectiveness and client focus. State intervention is needed to initiate a transition with the support of all parties involved in the design, production and waste processing of devices. The Health Council of the Netherlands has informed the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport accordingly in an advisory report.
