BCG vaccination will not be used against COVID-19

Based on the current state of scientific knowledge, the Health Council sees no reason to use the tuberculosis vaccine (Bacillus Calmette-Guérin, BCG) against COVID-19. As the Council noted in an advisory report to the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport, there is no compelling evidence that BCG vaccination can help prevent the occurrence of COVID-19 or severe disease resulting from COVID-19. Moreover, there are now COVID-19 vaccines available that have proven effective. The advisory report is a follow-up to an advisory report issued in October 2020.
