Pilot research on carrier screening for all prospective parents

The Health Council of the Netherlands recommends pilot research to determine whether preconception carrier screening could be responsibly offered to all prospective parents in the Netherlands. Currently, carrier screening is already offered pre-pregnancy to prospective parents who have a higher chance of being a carrier couple of the same severe hereditary disorder (preconception screening). However, the Health Council reasons that extending this offer to all prospective parents would provide additional benefits compared to existing screening options during pregnancy and after childbirth.
